Met with a Vet today

IMG_20130829_163840_095

Hey everyone.  As promised, we actually have some news for this update.  We went to a vet today to get our second set of shots, as well as a microchip, and Eddie was wonderful.  He waited patiently until it was his turn, and only whimpered when the tech put in the microchip.  He was also weighed today and we’re happy to report that he’s gone from 7 lbs at 6 wks to 14 lbs at 9 wks.  The vet says that he “should” stay small (for a Dane) which is only going to be good for him in the long run.  The vet that we saw today is a large animal specialist, mostly equine, but as Eddie is part horse, we’re OK going to see him.  He looked at Eddies leg and seems to think that his leg will probably have to come off so that he can have the best life possible.  He also said that even though he’s been a vet for a long time (30 years I think) he’s never seen a deformation like Eddie has.  After looking Eddie over and examining his leg, he told us that we need to find a specialist to look at it and even recommended a specialist service, which luckily turned out to be the one that Eddie has already been seen at!  Anyways, as you can see above, Eddie has definitely grown from when we first got him and below, you can see how his leg coming along compared to the rest of him.  His leg doesn’t seem to hinder him at all and once I figure out how, I plan to put a quick video or two of Eddie running and playing.  Well that’s about it for now.  Hopefully by next week I’ll be able to tell everyone about a new vet and if we actually have a game plan on how to address Eddies leg.  See ya next time.

Awe Eddie you are so cute. I hope you get good news and he should adapt really well to being a Tripawd. Lots of Danes. Queen Nova did great. she was a front amputee.

Ohhhh you big floppy eared oversize puppy! That pic is so darn adorable.

That’s great you got an expert opinion on the leg. You’re making progress which I know must feel so good, even if you’re just information-gathering right now. Once you have all the info in front of you, you and your team can come up with the plan that will get the ball rolling and help you feel your absolute best!

By the looks of things, it won’t take long for you to be a 100% Tripawd. You sure are growing fast Eddie.

I just love his color! What a beautiful boy he is. Always trust a horse vet – they have a tendency to be more honest and straight forward than small animal vets ( that’s just my experience). Keep us updated and sending good thoughts your way!

Good luck with a game plan! Knowledge is power around here, and we all seem to feel so much better just having a plan.

Eddie is indeed a handsome young dude. He will only be handsomer as a tripawd, and always remember that chicks dig scars.

Edddie already is a pony! Cannot believe how much he has grown!

Something that would be fun to do is draw a little measuring stick n a wall (erasable of course) and take a picture every week or two to measure how fast he is growing!

You are great pawparents ad Edde is a very luck, very cute and very handsome boy!

Love the photo! Look forward to more!

Hello, my name is Lora; I’ve been absent for awhile; had to get a new computer among other things.

First of all; your boy is so handsome (beautiful really). We had a great dane when I was in high school and she was a wonderful dog! My mastiff Oscar had his right front leg amputated on July 24 (bone cancer) and at this time he is doing great! We had a bumpy start-he developed a bad infection (probably hospital related) but he has adapted quite well (he’s 6 years old).

This site is an absolute lifesaver! When Oscar was at his worst I got so much support and the people here kept me going. You can feel the love and care they send through their emails.

As everyone else has said; keep us posted.

    Hugs and blessings
    Lora, Gus and Oscar
